Gehl
Gehl Company has grown and became a major force in the compact equipment industry, starting from just a small foundry in Wisconsin in 1859. Louis Lucas had the goal to supply the area with farm implements and machines. He later formed a partnership with a German blacksmith, Charles Siberzahn, who later purchased the Lucas Foundry. They designed a machine called the Hexelbank, which changed the way farmers made food for livestock. This first product and its popularity caught the eye of John Gehl who purchased their company in 1902. In just a few years, John was joined by his brothers in ownership, and in 1906 they became the Gehl Brothers Manufacturing. Later that year a fire destroyed everything. The Company was rebuilt, weathered the Great Depression and developed new and successful products. A second generation joined the Company in the 1930’s. In 1967 the name was changed to simply Gehl Company and through the next several decades the company enjoyed growth and prosperity.
