A History of John Deere

John Deere, a name synonymous with the agricultural industry, began its journey in 1837. A blacksmith by trade, Deere produced his first Ag product, an innovative plow that was formed and polished to be “self-cleaning.” This plow was the kick start to becoming a popular business.

The year 1852 brought some changes, and the blacksmith’s shop became known by different names; John Deere & Co, Moline Plow Manufactory and John Deere. In 1863, the company made its first “ride-on” implement, the Hawkeye Riding Cultivator.

The company continued to grow and diversify after the death of John Deere in 1886, and for a brief time they even went on to produce bicycles. Then, the acquisition of the Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company in 1918 lead to the introduction of the Model D, the first tractor produced with the Deere name. The business became incorporated as Deere & Company, Inc. in 1968.

In 1996, Levi Burkholder founded his own hydraulic repair business in Wakarusa, IN, called Burkholder Repair. After about 10 years of business, he closed the doors to Burkholder Repair and founded Loader Parts Source in 2008.

Loader Parts Source initially began as a small business selling skid steer replacement parts. Over the years, it has now grown into a multilevel company, with over 30 employed individuals. Loader Parts Source expanded quickly and began offering rebuilt components. Today, the company not only offers hydraulic pumps and drive motors, but also undercarriage parts, starters, engines, alternators, seals, bearings, radiators, etc. John Deere is just one of the makes our company provides replacement equipment for.
