New Holland
New Holland, Pennsylvania, 1895. That year, location and the desire to repair equipment put Abe Zimmerman on a path that led to the creation of the New Holland brand. Abe purchased a horse barn and went to work in his newly established Blacksmith shop. Soon called the New Holland Machine Company, this is where Abe developed a new feed mill that was received very well in the farming community. Soon called the New Holland Machine Company, this is where Abe developed a new feed mill that was received very well in the farming community. A thriving Company, New Holland Machine did well for itself until the onset of the Great Depression. Around 1930 revenue began a sharp decline that led to the sale of the company to 4 investors about 10 years later. After a smart acquisition, New Holland began recovery with the sales of quality built self-tying hay balers. Then, in 1947, the company was purchased by the Sperry Corporation and became Sperry-New Holland. Within a short period of time Sperry-New Holland gained a reputation for producing exceptional harvesting equipment. A solid Company, Sperry-New Holland continued on until its purchase by Ford in 1986. Soon after, in 1991, Fiat purchased 80% of Ford New Holland. By 1994 New Holland had been merged with Case Corporation, another Fiat company, creating Case New Holland or CNH. CNH now produces, markets and sells products under both New Holland Agriculture and New Holland Construction brands.
In 1972 New Holland joined the early leaders by offering the L35 skid steer to their product line. A natural fit for them, the skid steer is a versatile tool whether being onsite doing construction work or around the farm as an everyday asset. With the innovative “Super Boom” design the L35 offered and the addition of ROPS (Roll Over Protection Structure) standard on every machine, New Holland came out of the gate running. With its patented vertical lift design (Super Boom) the L35 could lift higher and reach forward farther than other machines, perfect for loading to the center of trucks and trailers or dumping material.
The New Holland line of skid steers has expanded its offerings through the years to include Radial arm lift machines and CTL’s (Compact Track Loaders). The New Holland Skid Steer line features the L, LS & LX series as well as the B & C series all introduced new features. The 200 series is no different. A wide cabin, low center of gravity and long wheelbase makes these machines a dream come true to someone who operated the original versions produced over 40 years ago.
One of the things that isn’t mentioned often is that skidloaders and compact track loaders are just plain fun to use. Akin to a military jeep or old school work-horse in their usefulness, they’re also like having your own personal off-road “Transformer”. And, given the seemingly unlimited attachments available, that’s pretty much an accurate statement! Truly, in some respects, a “Big Kid” Toy.
